Remember when I wrote an eternity ago about what Willow Palin left on her blog before she removed it? Specifically this statement from her:
September 4, 2008 mylifeaswillowpalin
I cannot belivie people are calling me racist? my mom told me they would even show one black person on tv tonight and did they? yes they did, so how can I be racist? diddy is the one who said their is no black people in alaska, which is not true. I treat those kind of people with respect, i let them talk to me, sit near me, so how am I racist? People trying to smear me, yes i’ve learned about that, i am not as dumb as some people…you know who you are….
Well, at that time I thought it was just a child not knowing what she was saying. Now that we have witnessed the political rallies of Governor Palin, I now understand that her thoughts are systematic of how her family thinks. Like mother, like daughter. You can see that on Governor Palin’s face. Let me say this in no uncertain terms, Governor Palin is xenophobic and racist. Yes, she tries to convey a friendly face, but her rallies show the true ugliness of her soul. Senator McCain, if you are reading this, I don’t know what happened to you. Do you really want to go down in history as the leader who initiated a dirty campaign based on race? I think this blogger (see here) conveys my thoughts the best. As the San Francisco Chronicle wrote in this article, the McCain campaign is now trying to turn Senator Obama into a Willie Horton.
I am also re-posting the responses of various readers to what Willow Palin said. They seem kind of dated and quaint, and it was just in September:

i agree with you. You arn’t racist. It just some people dont see the big picture. Some dont want to see it. And some oppose it. You get it, Willow. Atleast you are mature enough to ask the serious questions and take a intrest in your Mom’s campaign.

I believe there were actually two black people at the Convention, but one of them might have been Cindy McCain’s driver.
· 3.Zaftig! | September 4, 2008 at 5:41 am
Your own words sweetie “they would even show one black person.” “those kind of people” and let’s not forget ” i let them talk to me, sit near me,”
LET “them”? “Those kind of people”?
Guess what? “Those kind of people” are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan to preserve your right to spew your hatred of “them.” “Those kind of people” are running major corporations (i.e. American Express for one)Um the nation is 14% black dear.
Oh let’s not forget the “one black guy” who’s going to win the election dear.
You ARE racist not to mention homophobic.
Get over yourself. Stay in school. Get an education sweetness.

Im an 18 year old african american female from washington and i would like to know what do you mean by those people?..WE are americans just like you sweetie lets not forget that.YOUR white skin doesnt make you any more american than I am nor does my brown skin make me better than you. You may not be racist the things you are saying would make a person think so. i find that you reffering to us as “THOSE PEOPLE” just shows what type of person you are. You say you “let them near you as if its a privilege standing next to you”
In no way am i trying to attack you or smear you but it mind boggles me that you could come off so prejudice but yet your mother is running for Vice president in such a diverse country.
One thing i really advise you to do is read up on your history..read about that Mitochondrial Eve then maybe you’ll see how different we really arent
· 5. Voter | September 4, 2008 at 5:50 am
Barack Obama for the 1 millionth time is NOT BLACK. He is half white and half black and has stated several times that he was raised by his WHITE MOTHER. I am so tired of people not getting their facts straight.
Willowmight not word things the way you want but, she isn’t racist and she has a heart. Barack Obama would be disgusted with your hatred toward a child.
· 6.centricityjosh | September 4, 2008 at 6:13 am
People are dumb and quick to rush to judgement. I encourage you to keep your chin up….People always talk trash when they feel threatened.
Alot of us here in Tennessee will be praying for you and your family. Not just your mom, but each one of you.
· 7. get over it | September 4, 2008 at 6:15 am

· 9.a guy that lives in africa | September 4, 2008 at 6:26 am

It is true, where are most blacks in america, the south? where it is warm??? and look at africa? is it not warm here??? i think so! possibly why the aren’t populating alaska. just a thought, before people start being critical, why doesn’t he move to alaska, you think diddy might get to cold there?????
· 10. jay | September 4, 2008 at 6:30 am
…those kind of people…
And your mother is running for VP!
· 11.Weeee!! | September 4, 2008 at 6:32 am
Since when do kids have hearts?
· 12. Johnny | September 4, 2008 at 6:46 am
I don’t think you’re racist. But I can guess you haven’t been around many black people, even if I didn’t know you were from Alaska. Your choice of wording is not the best.
Hey “those” kinds of people are just like us. You don’t NEED to be any more respectful or talkative to black people than you would anyone else, just to prove you’re not racist.
I know you don’t mean any harm, but people can’t think otherwise. So just be careful with what you say.
· 13. bananabelle89 | September 4, 2008 at 7:16 am
you are dumb. Not just dumb but a dumb racist. And fine many dumb hicks are, but with your mother running for potential vp of the united states of America, you probably shouldn’t say things like “you let one sit next to you onece” referring to a black person. How dare you.
· 14.jason | September 4, 2008 at 7:20 am
lol….”those people” “i let them sit near me, i let them talk to me” if that doesnt sound like somebody speaking right out of the 1960’s south i dont know what does! they often say the worst racists are the ones that dont even realize it.
· 15.asdf fgsfds | September 4, 2008 at 8:50 am
I don’t know who’s funnier, you or Diddy dude thinking Alaska is so backward they don’t even have crack heads.
· 16. Tiffany Frazier-Smith | September 4, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Okay Willow, I don’t think you’re racist but the way you word things might give people the wrong idea. “Those kind of people”, “i even let them sit near me”, etc….it’s comments like that that trigger certain people, particularly black people who are already sensitive of anything race related anyway, to paint you as such. Instead of saying “those kind of peple”, refer to them by whatthey are, which is “blacks” or “african-americans”?
I’m curious. Has your mother and father seen your blog? If they haven’t, they should and they migt agree that you need to steer clear of anythng tat might come off as disparging to another race or sexual preference for fear of people taking it the wrong way and them accusing you of being a bigot.
· 17. Raquel | September 4, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Sweet heart how can you class black as those people then try to tell people your not racist oh please.wake-up the cenus in Alaska say its 1-6 percent of blacks there and may be you have not even seen those black people every day i would think once a year maybe never be how can you be better you are a right wings republicans are know to be that way all over the world do you know how i know because i travel to diffrent countrys .have you every leave America Honey .
THE OTHER THING IS USE A CONDOM NEXT TIME and have all the sex you want how cool are you blonde.
· 18.Tinothy Jenkins | September 4, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Wow. So they can take down Levi’s Myspace, his sister’s Myspace page and yet your blog remains intact and yet is more damaging to Sarah than anything else. There’s some things coming out about your mom now, like the fact that black leaders in Alaska has been trying to meet with her for almost two years now about some issues within the black community there and she has refused. Why would she do that, Willow? I guess in her head, “those kind of people” and their problems have no affect on me and my people, right? Maybe Alaska doesn’t have the inner cities and the issues that affect my community such as high black-on-black crime, a high teenage pregnancy rate, poverty, etc. If she won’t even tae the time to address the Blacks in her own state, I gues my and “my kind of people” should hang it up.
You talk a lot about your sister’s pregnancy and how people should leave your mom alone. Well, your mom is for abortion and overturning Roe vs. Wade which takes it out of a woman’s hands to choose. Let me ask you this, Willow? Is your sister getting decent prenatal care? Will your sister have the financial and emotional support of those around when her kid is born? My guess is yes. But for some people in the Black community, when your family barely has enough money to keep food on the table and the roof over your head, how can you afford prenatal care? Most low-income families where teen and unwanted pregnancy is prevalent, they can’t afford insurance, let alone prenatal care. What’s the point of choosing life if when you’re not getting the proper care, that life will slowly die in your womb or be born with so many disabilities/problems it’s not funny. Yes, there’s Medicaid but from what I understand, Sarah, your mom, is opposed to Medicaid.
I sum this up to say, it’s clear you get your ignorance from somewhere and my guess, given your mom’s record of not giving two cents about Black America, you get that ignorance from her.
as a black male is voting for the first time this year, maybe you can answer this for me? How does your mother appeal to someone like myself? I’m not in “middle-america”. I’m as low-income/lower class as it gets yet I have a drive to succeed, in spite my environment. I don’t want handouts from the government. I want to be my own man and at the same time, I care about the issues that affect my community. These very issues, when left unchecked, will no doubt make their way to your front door. Ask your mom that. I’m almost certain she’s not going to give me answer because running FROM the black community is what she does bet.
· 19. Tony | September 4, 2008 at 3:18 pm
You mom is running for office and you are more worried with your thoughts/feelings. Maybe you should help your mom and discuss real issues that we are faced with. Not petty problems from some rich girl who is spoiled and doesn’t know real life yet.

The problem here is that Willow, being only 14, could reasonably be presumed to repersent a fairly accurate distillation of her parents attitudes and beliefs, especially as she herself emphasises her parents role of instilling their ideals in her, and she has made some extraordinarily revealing remarks, as children and adolescents are wont to do, concerning her views on homosexuals and African-Americans among other issues.
Racism doesn’t necessarily entail hatred of a race. The term racist also applies to those who simply feel that another race is inferior to their own but with no specific hatred implied. I have not heard you express hatred of blacks but your own words come across as highly racist in tone. Letting “them” sit next to you does not make you a tolerant person and is in fact an extraordinarily condescending thing to say and your inability to recognize it as such ought to be concerning. Still, you are very young, Willow, and hopefully you will experience enough of the world to become less intolerant of others as you now come across. I must assume that you learned this from your parents and it does not reflect well on them. It might be wise to shut down this blog or stick to talking about matters that cannot be construed as a negative reflection on your mother’s beliefs and attitudes.
· 21. Benjamin | September 4, 2008 at 3:36 pm
YOU SAY YOU’RE NOT RACIST AND WHILE ALASKA DOES HAVE BLACKS IN IT, THEY ONLY MAKE UP 6% ON THE POPULATION. LIKE SOMEONE IN HERE POINTED OUT, YOUR MOTHER DIDN’T EVEN RESPOND TO REPEATED REQUESTS TO MEET WITH THE ANCHORAGE BRANCH OF THE NAACP. RIGHT THERE, THAT TELLS PEOPLE OF COLOR THAT SHE DOESN’T SEEM TO CARE OR TAKE THE TIME TO CARE ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITHIN THEIR COMMUNITY. IF SHE DID THAT IN ALASKA, WHAT WILL SHE DO WHEN MEDIA HOUNDS LIKE AL SHARPTON, JESSE JACKSON AND THE NATIONAL NAACP COME TO HER. TESE ARE PEOPLE SARAH CAN’T AFFORD TO BLOW OFF BECAUSE THEY HAVE A PRETTY STRONG VOICE IN BLACK AMERICA. AND THIS BLOG DOESN’T HELP EITHER. YOUR COMMENTS D COME OFF AS RACIST. IT ALMOSTS SOUNDS LIKE YOU’RE SAYING, “I CAN’T BE RACIST BECAUSE I “TOLERATE” BLACK PEOPLE”. I’M NOT SAYING YOU NEED TO WEAR AN “I LOVE BLACK PEOPLE” T-SHIRT BUT AS WE SAY, KEEP IT REAL. YOU DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT BLACKS BECAUSE YOU’VE PROBABLY NEVER BEEN AROUND THEM OTHER THAN WHEN YOU HAD TO BE.
OH YEAH, I TOOK THE LIBERTY OF FORWARDING YOUR BLOG WEBSITE TO THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER, PEREZ HILTON, BLACKAMERICAWEB.COM, AND A FEW OTHERS. YOU CAN THANK ME LATER.
· 22. me | September 4, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Willow ignore steves comments nothing you have said is even remotely racist and I’ve heard people with a racist tone Michelle Obama anyone? And your tone is not racist in the least. Steve obviously puts a lot of thought into his words and has quite a sense of self importance.but its a lot of hot air so ignore it
You should have a blog and express your thoughts if you choose.
· 23.CapnWhitey | September 4, 2008 at 4:12 pm
I would never let Steve talk to me or sit next to me. What a condescending prick.
· 24.TenaciousC | September 4, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Racist or not, the point remains to be seen, Willow. There are approximately 8 million unregistered African-American voters. Even more surprising to some, not all blacks plan to vote for Barack Obama. The Republican party seems to be giving up on the black vote because they assume it will all go to Barack Obama. I;m black myself and even I’m not sold on Barack Obama. I think by and large most people I talk to and I work for a newspaper, are voting for Barack Obama because he is black and it’s time for a black president. Sorry, that’s not a good reason. A lot of blacks going for Obama seem to think he will do so much for blacks while in office. I doubt it. Obama first has to clean up all the mess Bush has made over the last 8 years. For all they know, black america’s problems will be put on backburner. For this reason, there are a good number of blacks who are not voting for Obama. Not only that, even those for Obama can still be swayed. Your mom’s party just have to appeal to them. You can help by 1. refraining from anymore race talk. You’re gonna be done in no matter what direction you lean in 2. Your mom and John McCain need to appeal to black voters. John McCain did an incredible piece in Essense Magazine back in May where he appealed to blacks, talking about incentive programs to help inner-cities, creating more jobs, and even getting blacks in some of his cabinet positions if elected. He even promised to attend the NAACP convention, something his Repulican constituents never said they would do.
As for Diddy, who cares what he thinks? He’s just a shady record producer who can’t rap worth a dang. There are black people in Alaska. In fact, one of them happens to be my brother. He and his family live there and they love it. People there are very friendly and quick to help you out, regardless of what your color is.

Those attacking me personally I would ask please to reconsider your debating strategy. Dispute my points, refute my diatribe ’til the cows come home but personal attacks of this nature are irrelevant. If they have any relevancy it is to highlight the paucity or absence of your arguments. If you can argue against my positions then by all means do so but since when is it considered legitimate to disregard someone, or dismiss their words out of hand, simply because they have a larger than average vocaulary and reasonable grasp of grammar? Since when are good speaking or writing skills considered a liability? That would seem to indicate a self-confidence issue on your part. It is in large measure this mentality that has stuck us with the most illiterate president in US history.
As for Willow Palin, I have nothing against the girl. She seems smart enough and I am just trying to get her to think a little more about these issues and to escape, just a little, from the stultifying atmosphere of her parents narrow beliefs (sorry if that sounds condescending).
